Hughes was named captain of the United State's Rugby Sevens team at the start of the 2014 HSBC Seven's World Series, shortly after the appointment of new Head Coach Mike Friday. Hughes Captain the US Eagles to their highest ever finish in the sevens series (Sixth place) a vast improvement on the 12th the previous year. He was the second highest scorer for the 2015 series with 296 point. In the last Leg of the series Hughes lead the Eagles of victory in the London sevens being named player of the tournament in the process. ==High School == Hughes attended Wellington College, Berkshire, in England where he played rugby from 2006 to 2011. Wellington College is a prestigious private school with a long tradition of producing rugby players such as James Haskell, Thom Evans, Max Evans and Christian Lewis-Pratt.
